As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and the largest cultural venue in the region, The Fitzwilliam Museum acts as a crucial bridge between the University, the City and the rest of the world, and has an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, award-winning public programmes and amazing collections spanning many cultures and centuries. The Museum's conservation centre, the Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI), is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in conservation.

As Head of Communications and External Relations, you will lead the development and implementation of the Fitzwilliam Museum's Communications and Development Strategy, overseeing branding, communications, digital, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), membership and fundraising from donations, legacies, trusts and foundations, working in close partnership with the Senior Associate Director at Cambridge University Development and Alumni Relations (CUDAR) to secure major gifts. You will be managing a team of ten staff working across Communications, Design, CRM, Development and Membership, complemented by specialist design, digital, PR and other agencies and contractors.

You will help to take the Museum's reputation and standing to a new level, realising the full potential of this great collection and fascinating programme of work, ensuring it reaches as wide and diverse an audience as possible. You will work with colleagues to build audience engagement to ensure the Museum functions fully as a community, national and international asset. Working with colleagues across the University of Cambridge Museums, the University's Office of External Affairs and Communications and external partner, you will embed museums as must-see for visitors to Cambridge and an essential shared cultural asset for local people. Working with CUDAR, you will work to build a family of supporters and a network of funders, both individual and corporate, enabling the Museum to fulfil its mission.

Cambridge is a beautiful city on the River Cam in eastern England, home to the prestigious University of Cambridge, dating back to 1209. The Fitzwilliam Museum is one of eight museums which work in partnership with Cambridge University Botanic Garden and the University Library as the University of Cambridge Museums consortium, with internationally 'Designated' collections spanning archaeology and anthropology, polar exploration, the history of science and zoology and fine art
