The Learning department engages in research to build our understanding of the value of museum collections and programmes on learners and audiences, and to investigate and develop our practice as educators.
Current research interests include:
how to measure the impact of museum programmes on children and young people (through our AHRC-funded Practical Evaluation project);
the links between cultural learning, attainment and engagement for children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds;
the health and wellbeing benefits of cultural engagement;
the development of practitioner-led research with very young children (through our Nursery in Residence programme).
We welcome opportunities to collaborate with researchers in fields such as museum studies, cultural policy, education, health and wellbeing.
